Owing to the fact that every month our reporters go to various places to be on location, I'd like to introduce our report to the readers through Interactive!

HEADING FOR JAPAN'S NO. 1 MOUNTAIN

(Really, it s all about motivation at the start, you ve got to have a real interest!)
Well that's not the real reason but from 1-4 August, the staff went on location to the area of Mount Fuji's summit. Man oh man the air is thin up here!!!!
THE EQUIPMENT WE'RE USING IS QUITE SOMETHING!!
Heading for NTT's base hut in the peaks, even though every mountain hut had a telephone and a fax, I still didn t rest easy!
This is where the NTT DoCoMo Satellite Portable Phone makes an entrance, this is the latest machine that can make phone calls via satellite. Due to this model's size, it can be easily packed into a shoulder bag, and of course it comes with a battery. It can be used with a computer terminal and fax without any problems. In addition, providing there aren't any major obstructions in the the 45 Degree South area, a telephone call can be made from anywhere to anywhere in Japan. And as you can see, Internet is possible too!
We are using the latest DS-7 digital camera from FUJIFILM. Not only is the picture quality brilliant, but being so light made it great to carry up the mountain.The power source is 1000 mAh Ni-Cd which has recently appeared on the market. It s by far lighter than alkaline and if you recharge them in the mountain huts at night, (all mountain huts have a generator that run at night) you can take loads of photos the next day! The spare memory card is so small that you have to be really careful that it doesn't blow away when changing it in a strong wind!

We are using Powerbook 540 for our portable computer terminal, the reason being, that's the only one we have <laugh> It contains a modem, but the memory card cannot be directly read. Probably a late model word processor or a lighter compact machine would have been a better idea.
